イタリアの小さな町の物語

おはようございます。

 
 
昨日と打って変わって今日東京はとても晴れております。
 
 
 
真夏のように暑すぎるということもなく、
１年の中でもとても過ごしやすい、外出するには
最適な時期かもしれませんね。
 
 
昨日はお休みをいただいておりましたが、
生憎雨が降っていたため、大好きな東京散歩もあまりできず、
おとなしくカフェで本を読んでおりました。
 
 
新しく買った『ミラノの太陽、シチリアの月』という
内田洋子さんのエッセイ本なのですが、
現在ミラノ在住の内田さんがこれまでイタリアで出会った
数々の人生物語をまとめあげたものです。
 
 
 
この本を読んでいると、世界中には本当に数えきれないほどの
様々な人々が、それぞれ違った価値観や人生観、悩み、夢、
希望を抱きながら生きているのだなと感じます。
 
 
イタリアの小さな田舎町のある丘の上でひっそりと佇む
小さな駅舎を住まいとし、大切な一人娘を赤ちゃんの時から
大人になるまで大切に育て上げてきた駅長とその奥さんの物語。
 
 
 
これまた田舎町の海を目の前に見渡せる歴史あるホテルの最上階で、
まるで映画のような若い頃の恋愛を胸に大切にしまってきた
貴婦人の物語。
 
 
 
人を全く寄せ付けない一匹狼との激しい恋愛の末、
結婚し誰もいないような田舎にひっそりと建つ家を
二人で購入するも、赤ちゃんが誕生した途端夫が
家出をし、昔の甘い恋だけを頼りに女手一人で立派な青年を
育て上げた甘くせつない女性の物語......
 
 
本当に様々な人生がつまった一冊でした。
 
 
私は海外がとても好きで良く海外に思いを馳せますが、
一冊の本におさめられた「世界の物語」を垣間みるだけで
普段味わえないようなドラマチックな気分に浸れます。
 
 
 
どうしても時間の制限があり、人が一生の間に経験できることは
限られていますが、こうして本などを通して世界中の人々の人生に
触れることで、その経験やそのときに生じる感情を分けていただけるような
気がします。
 
 
みなさんも是非、本を通して色んな人生を覗いてみてください。

Good morning.
 
 
It's very sunny today unlike yesterday.
 
 
This not-too-hot but warm wether is very comfortable,
and it must be one of the best seasons for going out.
 
 
I had a day off yesterday, but since it was raining,
I couldn't do a walk around Tokyo, which is my favorite custom.
Instead, I went to a cafe and read a book quietly with a cup of coffee.
 
 
 
The book I read was titled "Il sole tra le nuvole, la luna sul mare."
(In Japanese, 「ミラノの太陽、シチリアの月」)
The book was written by Yoko Uchida who now lives in Milan.
The book is filled with stories which she has seen in Italy
for many years.
 
 
 
When reading this, I cannot help but think that there are
so many people living in the world with different values, 
worries, dreams, and hopes.
 
 
A story of a stationmaster and his wife, who has raised 
a girl from her childhood to her adulthood in a small station
which is located on a hill of a very small town of Italy.
 
 
 
A story of an old lady who had been holding a very 
movie-like romantic love story in her heart who now lives
in a top floor of a hotel which can look our over the sea.
 
 
A story of a woman who passionately loved a guy of lone wolf
and bought a house in a countryside where her husband left
her and made her raise the child by herself whose only reliable
thing was the memory of love romance in the past.
 
 
So many dramatic stories are in this one little book.
 
 
By experiencing the different lives of the world through a book,
I can feel my heart so excited.
 
 
Time is limited and there is the limit to the amount people can 
experience in life.  But by reading a book, I can experience a
dramatic life at secondhand.
